Revisiting - VI
Take stock of your circle of associates - friends, colleagues and others with whom you spend significant portion of your time. Are they adding value to you? If yes, then your associations are beneficial. If it so happens that you are adding value to them without their adding value to you, then it is a one way street which leads to your depreciation. the most valued equation is a two way transaction - mutually beneficial relationships. In case the situation is such that only you are adding value to your associates, it is time to expand your circle to include persons who can add value to you, who can stretch your creativity and who can help you in amplifying your life. If the situation is that you are not able to add value to your associates, then start growing else you will be sidelined by them. Your circle of associates will remain healthy and creative only when the interaction is balanced and mutually beneficial. Do not associate with persons who indulge in blaming others, back biting and gossiping. It is very easy to identify such associates by the verbal language they use.
Are you happy in your current profession - be it a job or business? Does your current profession excite you, make you want to create, make you want to expand your horizon? Does your current profession make you want to hit the deck when you get up in the morning? If the answer is yes, then it is good for you. Build on your profession. If the answer is no, then there are two options available to you. Change your profession or stick to it accepting the mediocrity of your life.
We usually tend to stick to it because we do not feel comfortable with change. The commonly used justification used in such circumstances is "A known devil is better than an unknown one". This tendency is most severe in persons engaged in "secure" jobs - government jobs - where it is challenge to sack a person on the severest of charges and negligence. The mediocrity of service rendered by such persons is evident from the efficiency with which the government run establishments operate. This is a situation where everyone is stuck in mire.
Changing a profession may not be very easy initially. It may require time. You may have to acquire a new set of skills. New opportunities must open up, which may not happen immediately. But change you must to come out of the rut. Stick to your current profession, which is providing you the wherewithal, with a difference. Once you decide to change, your strategy should be to maximise the utilization of the "Now". Give your current assignment your all. Excel in you assignment. Add skills. Look for opportunities to expand your scope of work. Take additional responsibilities. Do not work by the clock. Work with a mindset to go home after you complete your assignment. The moment the mindset is switched to this mode, the abundance mode sets in. With this approach, you will grow in your current assignment, you will have developed your reputation opening up newer and better avenues. Do not work with a mindset, that you are stuck in present assignment out of compulsion. Such a mindset will drag you down. Give your current assignment your all. Excel.
