Top 25 growth books -II

Think and Grow Rich
Napoleon Hill

Written in 1937, this book is reputed as the "Grand daddy" of all personal and self development books. Do not get misled by the title of the book. It is about achieving abundance not only in money wealth but in all walks of life.
Hill was inspired by a suggestion from the legendary Scottish - American business magnate and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.

This book is a result of 20 years of research by the author during which he gathered information from over 500 most successful people. He has written the book in 13 actionable steps.
Andrew Carnegie set Hill on a journey to find out the common factors which made people successful. Hill began quest of interviewing and studying hundreds of successful people, such as Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, and Woodrow Wilson, and then trying to decipher the common factors that helped them achieve all of their accomplishments in business and in life. Hill claimed that his findings would bring success to anybody irrespective of his education, social status and background. The book was published when the Great Depression in America was at its peak. The book generated immediate response from the people and became an instant hit.
For better understanding of the subject, Hill has packed each of his chapters with examples and anecdotes. This helps in internalising the concepts easily.
At the time of Hill's death in 1970, Think and Grow Rich had sold more than 20 million copies and by 2011 over 70 million copies had been sold worldwide.

In the introductory sentences, Hill has mentioned that one will have to have a firm belief in the concepts for them to work. That reminds me of the two most important prerequisites for success in any field - belief and desire.

It is an easy read. Read and reread.
