We create with our thoughts - II
One question that was raised while coaching on the Law has great significance. I was asked whether we can influence the thought process of another by our own thoughts?
I say that it is very very difficult to change a person without the consent of the person. The urge to change must come from within the person. What we can do is to act as an example, by our personal behaviour, of the thought process that we would like the other person to emulate.
I would like to extend my explanation further. Suppose you have a close friend who is critically ill. How do you behave with that person in either in remote mode e.g.on phone or in person? Do you discuss the illness with your friend and show facial or verbal expressions which display concern for the condition of your friend? You may be thinking that you are sympathising with your friend and showing your closeness with your friend. In fact, you are doing a great disservice to your friend. When you behave this way, your friend is going to pick up the vibrations of anxious thoughts looking at your body or hearing your verbal language and resonate more intensely in the vibrations of illness. You are influencing your friend by your behaviour, not by your thoughts, which he is going to emulate.
A second question which came up was on why a large portion of population suffers from stress and stress related illnesses?
I say that we have collectively created a world which works on cut-throat competition. We are living from a mindset of lack. We have come to believe that there is scarcity of resources and hence we have to win over others to take our cut from the pie. The real truth is just opposite. There is abundance of everything in our world. Everybody can have their fill. each one of us will have to know how to attract what we want.
Another reason for stressful living is our habit of responding in resonance with what we observe. Just switch on the the TV and you will be flooded with all kinds of negativity with news on robberies, murders, accidents and all kinds of gore. Same with news papers. I have seen young kids watching with wide eyes the Nature channels on TV where the carnivores are hunting down their prey, killing and eating them. The mass media makes a living on negativity. When we absorb these, we start to generate thoughts in resonance with such negativity. We start attracting the wrong kind of things.
We have surrendered our control on the response that we make to a stimulus. We have forgotten that though we can not control the environment, we can always control our response and get out of the stressful way of living.
A third question which is often asked is how to control what we think?
We think from our perception - how we interpret what we see. Each one of us believes that what he perceives is the only truth and correct thing. We very rarely provide space for perception of others. And by that we give away a highly potential source for enriching our thoughts. The task of changing this behaviour is very difficult and takes time.
Till such time you can master the art of allowing other view points, I say that use your will power to deliberately control what you think.
When you create a dominant thought - a thought which you think repetitively with feeling - use the power of imagination to see what you want. Imagination is unique to human beings. No other living creature has this faculty. Imagination of your thought empowers the thought further. This will be discussed in the next post.
See you again. God bless. Khuda Hafiz.
