The Law
Revisiting - XII
I stuck to my plans. I stopped advertising my intentions and plan of action. After I had made progress, my growth was noticed by all. But by that time, I had learnt to put the opinions of others in proper perspective. I was so involved in my effort that I stopped receiving, rather started filtering out, opinions which either did not boost me or added value to my endeavor.
The Tribe has a very strong influence on its members. The tribe has its dynamics for controlling the choices its members make. You may need to examine your tribe very closely and moderate it to support you and boost you on your journey. It is an important issue which will be discussed separately.
This taught me a very valuable lesson. Keep your desires to yourself, at least in the initial stages. Some of your relatives and friends will not be comfortable with the idea that one of theirs is intending to go beyond the box. They will not want you to upset the status-quo and will want you to be confines within he box, how-so-ever discomforting and inadequate it may be. And if you have not changed the architecture of your mindset, you are up for a weak start.
After I made noticeable progress, my actions became apparent to others. What they said, thereafter, did not matter to me. I was on a joyous journey. I had found my footing. I did not enter into any debates on the efficacy of my actions. I did not expect to convert others to my way. Do not try to convert others to your way. No one gets converted unless the urge to change comes from within. The only assistance you can provide by displaying your progress as an example.
Namaste
I said in the previous post that the reactions that I received from my friends and relatives, on my endeavor to educate children, taught me a very valuable lesson.
Never broadcast your desire. Keep it to yourself. I am not asking you to be secretive. I am asking you not to put up a bill board. In the initial stages it is very essential to keep things close to you, and at best be known to only few who will stand by you, through thick and thin, and who want to see you grow. Such persons will be very few in number, may be two to four, till you do something about enriching your circle. This is necessary to see that you are not derailed.
When you have decided to move towards abundance, you have decided to push your boundaries; you have decided to go beyond your comfort zone. You are aware that you will be in discomfort for some time, due to the uncertainties existing beyond your comfort zone. With that awareness, you have decided to move.
The funny part is, when you decide to forge ahead, you are not the only one who is going to be uncomfortable; some of your friends, relatives and close acquaintances - your tribe - will also be uncomfortable for you have decided to break the norm of the tribe. The tribe has drawn its boundaries. It is comfortable living within that boundary in spite of scarcity and inadequacies. When you attempt to violate the norm, the tribe feels threatened. The tribe will try to dissuade you from your journey. You become a bad example to other members of the tribe. And if you are amenable to the opinion of others, specially of those to whom you have been closely intertwined, you will tend to fall back to the norm of the tribe.
