The Law

Habit - VIII

There are two ways of looking at a crisis in life. One view is the pessimistic one - the end of the world. The other view could be to see a crisis as an opportunity for change. A crisis is a finger pointing to us telling us that we need to change. In fact we should take advantage of a crisis and not let it pass by without changing a habit. A crisis can be harnessed to boost the will power.

let me repeat a golden rule. Do not let a crisis slip through your fingers without causing a change in you to your advantage. As we have seen, one change will catalyse other changes.

Procrastination is one of the most common sticky habit.

One of my close associate was afflicted badly with the disease of procrastination. His "to do" things pile up to such huge proportions that he left everything to chance hoping that some magic will happen to take care of his situation.

One morning I received a telephone call from his wife saying that my friend was experiencing severe pain in his stomach. We rushed him to a hospital. After a series of tests, he was diagnosed with cancer in the pancreas. The doctors took a dim view of his situation and predicted that his days were numbered.

The day after his diagnosis, I visited him in hospital. I found him calm and composed. He wanted an honest reply from me on the doctor's conclusions. I gave it to him. I also mentioned to him that the doctors felt that he had one more year, at best. I had to tell him this, because knowing his inclination to procrastinate, I wanted him to show urgency and put things in order for his family.

His treatment commenced. My friend had, in his solitude, had made a decision - a decision to make every day of his life count. His habit of procrastination disappeared. This had happened about twelve years ago. My friend is making every day count till today.

He is an expert on Vedic Sciences, Agriculture and developing Apps. He has learnt to read, write and speak in Spanish, Chinese and Swahili. Some diversity that. His son is in NASA and his daughter is  an acclaimed danseuse. His wife runs her own school. He is living his life to the full. The change in the quality of his life and the life of his family has been amazing.

It all started with a crisis. He created his change. A change and its ripple effect can do miracles.

God bless
