The Power of Positive Thinking
Norman Vincent Peale
A few quotes from the book:
"The way to happiness: Keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little, give much. Scatter sunshine, forget self, think of others. Try this for a week and you will be surprised.”
“Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture... Do not build up obstacles in your imagination.”
“When you expect the best, you release a magnetic force in your mind which by a law of attraction tends to bring the best to you.”
Norman Vincent Peale (1898 –1993) was an American minister and author (most notably of The Power of Positive Thinking) and a progenitor of "positive thinking". His ideas were not accepted by mental health experts. (Wikipedia)
In the introduction, the author states that “It is written with the sole objective of helping the reader achieve a happy, satisfying, and worthwhile life.”
The book has a christian overtone, having been written by a pastor. There are numerous extracts from the Bible. However the content is universal, beyond all religious faiths. The power of optimism has gained tremendous amount of ground in scientific studies. In this context I will like to draw the attention of the readers to the previous post on The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge.
“The Power of Positive Thinking” is a timeless self-improvement resource. Read it. It will at least make you think on your quality of living.
