Calm Mind - IV
The way we breathe is very important for attaining the meditative state. The two fundamental requirements are
1/ breathing through the nostrils and not the mouth
2/ use the belly to inhale and exhale and not the chest.
Breathing will have to regulated so that we breathe deeply and slowly. In the initial stages you may find that breathing is rapid and shallow. Practise deep and slow breathing, not only during meditation, but as a routine.
I will conclude this subject with some of my observations on modern trends in meditation where lot of teachers recommend using sound bytes to catalyse the meditation process. You might have heard of terms like "bin aural beats", "Solfeggio frequencies" and many more. Some of these teaches also propose sound waves of a particular frequency for repairing DNA, removing depression, attracting money etc. I have tried some of the new technology. One thing I must say that a soothing music really helps in reaching in a deep level of relaxation. I could not discern anything beyond that . I leave this to your choice and comfort level.
I prefer meditation in silence or in presence of sounds of nature. I prefer to keep my ears open - and not covered by earphones - so that I am open to the sounds of nature. As you practise meditation and advance somewhat you will start hearing the sound of the silence. The beauty of those sounds are beyond any description.
I am giving you links to download short - each of 5 to 7 minutes duration - music pieces, in MP3 format, which are deeply relaxing. These can be heard at night before going to sleep. These are best heard through earphones.
