Calm Mind - III

2/ Close your eyes. Start with a few deep breaths. Slowly inhale with your belly and exhale. Will your body to relax. With each exhalation of breath, feel the stress flowing out of your muscles and body, feel the body relaxing.

Visualise a bright light of a colour of your choice, preferable white, green or pink, glowing in your heart. Slowly enlarge the light. Imagine the light filling your whole body. Hold. Visualise the light becoming larger and larger and coming out of your body. Visualise the light enveloping your entire body. Hold. Visualise the light enlarging further and filling up the entire room. Hold. Start contracting the light slowly till it rests back in your heart.

Come out of the meditation slowly. Sit in the same posture for a few minutes before getting up.

Before describing the third meditation process, let me relate an incident. About 25 years back I had been to Kanya Kumari, the southernmost tip of India. I used to go to the sea beach at about 3.30 AM. The beach had a ethereal beauty with the moonlight playing on the waves. So early in the morning, the beach was peaceful. There was no hustle bustle of tourists and vendors. On all days I saw only one vendor, an aged person, with his coffee dispensing trolley with an oil lamp glowing, The entire atmosphere mesmerised me. I automatically switched over to meditation mode then and there.

All of us have, at some time or other, may have gone to places which struck a chord in our heart making us exclaim on the beauty of the place. This is a very easy and good theme for meditation.

3/ Close your eyes. Start with a few deep breaths. Slowly inhale with your belly and exhale. Will your body to relax. With each exhalation of breath, feel the stress flowing out of your muscles and body, feel the body relaxing.

I am in Kanya Kumari. It is very early morning. The moon is in full glow. I am walking down to the beach. I sit down on the beach. I see the waves crashing on to the beach softly and receding. I hear the sound of the waves. I see the coffee vendor and a soft glow of light coming from the oil lamp. There is a mild breeze caressing my face. I am seeing a light coming from a fisherman's trawler in distant horizon. The moon light is reflecting on the waves giving a mild silvery glow to the waves. The moonlight is creating beautiful patterns on the floating pieces of clouds. I see a path like pattern going to heaven. I hold myself in the details thinking on the visuals.

You can replace the visuals with one which you experienced

Come out of the meditation slowly. Sit in the same posture for a few minutes before getting up.

Learning is grounded with practicing. Practice meditation my friends. You may choose to develop your own style of meditation. The idea is to train the mind to focus which is so essential for intensifying your thought.

Namaste.
