The Law

Revisiting - XXVI

The good thing about my bug bite was that I noticed it and decided to do something about it. This bug bites everyone. All feel the hurt. Some do something about it, and the rest ignore it.

This bug has bitten me thrice so far. The first time, I took action to excel in my current assignment and launched myself on to the abundance trajectory. The second time, when I had plateaued in the current assignment and I changed course. I went to a far off land, distant from my home and family, in a land where the culture was entirely different and pursued my path to abundance. The third time when I assessed that I was not progressing as per my target, I decided to change course again. I took action, I kept on moving. The bug is biting me again. After seven years I am finding that I am plateauing again. I have to chart out my next course of action and move quickly.

The reason of my narrating my background was to bring out a key issue - how we see money. This is an issue in which we are highly interested and mostly off track.

As with me, you too have created your mindset or set of beliefs from your parents, close relatives and extended family in your childhood. This mindset has been moderated, for better or for worse, by your religion, society and other environmental influences. These set of beliefs have embedded deeply within our sub-conscious mind. However, an window is always open for you to examine your mindset and change the set of beliefs. The window opens wider when you get into a position to take decisions for yourself. To my assessment, only 20% people make any attempt to change their beliefs. Only one tenth of this population make progress on a sustainable basis and the others relapse back in to their original beliefs.

Have you been brought up in a home where money was viewed as "root of all evils"? Have you been indoctrinated with the truism that "money does not grow on trees"? Have you been mentored under conditions where "we can not afford" was often said? Have been you taught that "money is all there is"? These are some of the ways that we learn to see money. In my childhood tribe, a moneyed man was linked to dishonesty and bad ethics. This conclusion emerged from a trick played by mind. The predominantly larger population of the tribe lived in scarcity. They perceived themselves as honest and with good ethical standards (which I think was not entirely true). Hence the conclusion that a honest man lives in scarcity. This mindset justified their remaining in scarcity. With this mindset they need to have to make extra effort to earn more. With this mindset, they do not have to go beyond their boxes and enter zone of discomfort.

It is very important that you examine your perception of money and develop a health relationship with money. This is a very important requirement for moving to abundance. You will be surprised to see the baggage that one carries in his mind with respect to money.

Money and Integrity are not either-or options. Both can exist together. To earn money honestly or dishonestly is a choice. Honesty and dishonesty are either-or options. Either you are honest or you are not. There is nothing in between. There is nothing called selective honesty. You are honest when you are honest in all situations.

Money is a tool. It is not all there is. It is not "be all". Money is a resource which can bring you comfort, provide better living conditions, bring you better associations, create larger abundance and help you in serving others. You can create funds which will generate earning without your working. You can set up endowments and trusts for reaching out to those who need the initial push and some support to get on their feet. You can create your legacy with money. You can make a difference, on sustainable basis, in this life with money. I had mentioned earlier that everyone defines abundance for himself. For me abundance is not about having expensive cars in my garage. For me abundance is about providing education to under privileged children to a professional level. For me abundance is about creating an endowment where the process of education can continue after I cease to exist. This will be my legacy. This is my way of making a difference.
