The Law

Revisiting - XIX

In an earlier post, I had used the word "Tribe". This term includes your family, your extended family, your friends and close acquaintances, professional colleagues and mentors. You live in a field of influence of created by the members of your tribe. The influence of the tribe on the quality of your life is indisputable. It determines to a significant extent your choices and actions. Your tribe can empower you ans also suck the life out of you.

You will need to do some work in creating your tribe in a way that it complements you, supports you, challenges you on your journey to abundance. The creation of such a tribe is, obviously your responsibility.

I have created a Johari window to assist you in identifying the members who will be in your tribe. One axis of the window is a measure of nurturing and supporting capability of the members of your current tribe. The vertical axis of the window represents the communication capability of the members of your existent tribe.

The top quadrant on the right hand side has been named as the "Look up to" relationships. The persons in this quadrant are those who nurture you, provide support to you intellectually, emotionally and even financially to help you progress on your chosen path. Your interests are uppermost in their mind. they will ot hesitate to stick their neck out for you. They are strong communicators. They will take pains to adapt their communication style which resonates with you. Thus they are never ambiguous in their communication. they will respect your space and your boundaries. They will stretch you, challenge you to make that extra effort. They will hold you accountable. They will pick you up when you fall, nurse you and put you back on your feet. The members out of this quadrant will form the major part of your final core team who will go all out to push you to your pinnacle. You have a special responsibility to the members of your core team. You will have to communicate transparently with the members of your core team. You will not have a separate agenda. If you have to break down, do it in their presence. If you feel like giving up, feel frustrated, need to complain and are emotionally mauled, vent your feeling in front of them. Do all your emotional dramatics in their presence. They will pick you up, prop you, push you and make you run again. They will form a protective shield around you. they will take things off your plate and lighten your burden. They will not mince their words. For then "No" and "yes" are complete sentences. It is your job to ensure that your abundance includes them.

I have no definite formula for the composition of the final Core Team. It varies from person to person. My own Core team does not have a single blood relation. It consists of my Life coach and two boyhood friends. All of them are far advanced in abundance as compared to me. They are my personal examples and I strive to reach their heights.

The quadrant just below the top right hand quadrant is named as "Donor" relationships. The members in this quadrant will provide you all support that you need. Your interest is uppermost in their mind. They are a silent group of people. They do not communicate well. Even if they are uncomfortable in providing you the support that you had asked from them, they will do so without complaining. Even if they are hurt by any of your actions, they will not hold it against you and continue to support you. They will respect your space and your boundaries. They will not mind if you interfere in their space and cross their boundaries. I have found that normally the parents, one or both, fall into this category. It is a support group to which you have huge responsibilities as they will never ask anything for themselves whatever be their status. they will stretch themselves no end in providing support to you. You may or may not have members from this relationship in your core team. Your journey to abundance can not be in exclusion of these people. They will not complain if they are left behind and that is why you are more responsible to see that they are not left behind. You need to play a much more proactive role in setting up a communication channel with this team so that unintended hurts are minimised. They need not know the nuts and bolts of the dynamics of your endeavor. It is better that they are not involved in the detail dynamics for the communication gap may foul up things.

We will look at the other two quadrants in the next post.
