The law
The body may be weak. It may be degenerating with age. It may be born weak and deformed and handicapped. This does not have any relevance to the state of the mind. A weak or deformed body does not mean an associated weak and deformed mind. Rather the reverse is true. A weak and fragile mind will make body in its fashion. A mind is ever growing, over the years, from incarnation to incarnation. The usual notion that we have that the mind weaken with ageing leading to loss of memory, loss of hearing, loss of eyesight, arthritis, fragility in bones and muscles is our creation. We create this through our beliefs which have formed since our childhood and the childhood of our parents and theirs. We now believe that this is our fate. Such a belief is the breeding ground for disease. Such a belief is false.
Mind, and the thoughts emanating out of it, is the source of all disease. A thought which hurts the mind also affects the body and is painful to the body. Have we not seen people shaking in anger? Do we not feel weak after experiencing a bout of anxiety or fear? Do we not feel lethargic when thinking depressing thoughts? Imagine what catastrophic impact such things have on your body when these are experienced in doses day after day, year after year!
A few years back I had to travel in a train in peak summer in one of the Southern states of India. The coach was not air-conditioned. Though the weather was very hot. I had managed to ignore it to a large extent and was engrossed in a book. My co-passenger suddenly commented that it was so very hot. I agreed and ricocheted a similar agreement. The weather suddenly became unbearable. I started using the book to wind myself and started fidgeting. Nothing had in fact changed. But My behavior changed. The moment the mind becomes a slave to external stimulation, our body agrees in no time and we start resonating with the stimulation. I have learnt that under difficult situations, which are beyond our control, it is best to keep the mind busy in doing something constructive instead of allowing it to focus on the difficulty. And where the situation is controllable it is ideal to regulate the mind in working on the solution than allowing it to get addicted with the problem. We have to master the art of opposing anything that is unpleasant, harmful and that tries to master us. These are all mental plays.
Let us learn the art of sending good wishes, sending blessings. If one of our friends or relatives goes down with an illness, what is going to help him is some people getting together and sending him good wishes and blessings, helping in his nursing and not shedding tears for him or doing lots of "tsk,tsk..". We benefit your friends well when we discuss him with others keeping his good qualities in the foreground and his defects in the background.
If the people's methods seem to be wrong and foolish, there is no gain but only harm in abusing the people or their methods. In so doing we attract to ourselves the counter-current of antagonistic forces. Does it mean that we overlook and ignore all wrong and foolishness? No, we need to put in the effort to show better methods to those who are mistaking. This, then, becomes a very uplifting experience. The mind gets empowered to attrac
So long as we see only the defects in others and so long as we take pleasure in derision of others, we are handicapped. We will be always emanating forces of hate and anger. All our evil will stand in the forefront. Cynics are thus born. The tragedy with the cynics is that they start with despising others and end finally despise themselves. No cynic ever lives in good heath. The problem with cynics is that they are externally focused. They will look for utopia outside them and not look within.
A lie of any kind needs nursing. If we tell one lie, we will need to protect the lie by telling another. We will need to spend lot of energy in remembering the lies that we have uttered so that we don't get caught. The habit of telling lies grows to an extent that the person who lies does not comprehend when he is telling a lie. It becomes his nature. It changes his brain. The lies need not be in spoken words only. It may be in terms of displaying false emotions like putting on a smile when a guest arrives when at the back of the mind we would like him gone. Truth is self regenerating. Staying on the path of truth empowers.
