Back to the roots - XXIV

Journey of the Soul - V

Let us look at a few prodigies.

In psychology research literature, the term child prodigy is defined as person under the age of ten who produces meaningful output in some domain to the level of an adult expert performer. (Wikipedia)

Shakuntala Devi was born in Bengaluru, India, in 1929. Her father worked  in a circus. Her mother was an semi literate orthodox Kannada housewife. By the age of six Shakuntala demonstrated her calculation and memorisation abilities at the University of MysoreShakuntala travelled the world demonstrating her arithmetic talents, including a tour of Europe in 1950. In 1988, she travelled to the US to have her abilities studied by Arthus Jensen, a professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkley. Jensen reported that Shakuntala could answer the problems posed to her and in some cases produced the answer before he could copy them down in his note book.
Srinivasa Ramanuja was born in Tamilnadu, India in Dec 1887 His father worked as a clerk in a sari shop. His mother was a housewife and also sang at a local temple. Ramanuja with almost no formal training in pure mathematics, learnt college-level mathematics by age 11, and generated his own theorems in number theory and Bernoulli number by age 13. He turned out to be a world renowned mathematical genius in his subsequent life.
Yehudi Menuhin, born in New York in April 1916 was an American-born British and Swiss violinist and conductor. Yehudi's parents were music enthusiasts but were not musicians. Yehudi's sisters were concert pianists. Menuhin displayed exceptional talent at an early age. His first public appearance, when only seven, was as solo violinist with the San Francisco Symphony in 1923. He subsequently became a world renowned violinist.

Michael Kevin Kearne, born in 1984 in Honolulu, USA, was the youngest college graduate at the age of ten. He uttered his first words at the age of 4 months and started reading at the age of 10 months. His parents were of normal intelligence.

There are many more prodigies, some very famous and some not so.

The prodigies can be broadly categorised into three groups:

1/ Where the parents and other family members or ancestors were not in the field where the prodigy showed his extra-ordinary capabilities.

2/ Where the parents and ancestors were not in the field where the prodigy showed extra-ordinary capability but at least one other member of the immediate family, such as a brother or a sister, displayed good capability.

3/ Where the parents or ancestors were in the same field as the prodigy and displayed good capability

The first two categories ruled out the possibility of any genetic effect. In the third category also the capability of the prodigy was way way above the capability of the parents or the ancestors.

I conclude that this phenomena is a result of the cumulative knowledge of the Souls which manifested in their current birth. The brain is the instrument which the Soul uses to manifest its cumulative knowledge. The current physical form need not have acquired the knowledge. Depending on the desire and tendencies of the Soul in the previous birth and the lesson plan for the current birth, the Soul will either refine its knowledge in a particular direction or move in a different direction in the current incarnation.

We will continue with our discussions in the subsequent post. Some of the conclusions in the next posts are drawn from my personal experiences.

See you
