Back to the roots - XV

The Third Eye or Ajna chakra

The sixth chakra, Third Eye chakra, is known as Ajna chakra in Sanskrit.

It is located one finger breadth above the bridge of the nose in the centre of the forehead.

It opens to the front. It has also a counterpart opening backwards.

It's colour is indigo.

It is associated with face, eyes, ears, nose, sinuses, cerebellum, central nervous system.

It is associated with the Pituitary gland. The secretions from this gland control the functioning of other glands. It is also called the "Master" gland.

The Ajna chakra is the seat of our memory, will and intellect.

Every realisation of our lives is preceded by thoughts. We are connected to the process of manifestation through the Third Eye Chakra. It  is here that we create new realities and dissolve old ones. However, mostly we do not control the creation and dissolution process. It happens by default - by our emotional patterns, the way we think, opinions of others etc. For living a enlightened life, we need to control this process deliberately for which we will need to open our Ajna chakra and keep it in balance.

An open and harmonious Ajna chakra causes development of capabilities for intuition, clairvoyance etc. Advanced intellectual skills, holistic pursuit of scientific research, recognition of far reaching philosophical truths etc indicate an open and harmonious Ajna chakra.

A dis-harmonious Third Eye chakra can cause a person to be exclusively dependent on his intellect and rationality. Such a human being does not accept anything beyond what is perceived by the physical senses or proven by scientific stipulations. Spiritual reflections and discussions are waste of time.

A weakly functioning Third Eye chakra will also cause forgetfulness. The weak health of this chakra also results into impaired vision.

The Ajna chakra is stimulated by looking at the clear starry night sky.

Lapis lazuli, Indigo-blue sapphire and sodalite are some gemstones which help in healing this chakra.

The fragrances of Mint and Jasmine also help in keeping this chakra balanced.

Meditate once a week on Third Eye chakra. Visualise a deep blue or indigo energy pulsating brightly inside your forehead. Visualise it growing bigger and brighter and filling up you entire upper head. Hold for 10 minutes. Let go.
