Born to run
A hidden tribe, super athletes, and the greatest race the world has never seen
Copper Canyon, Mexico. Deeper and bigger than Grand Canyon. There lives an ancient Mexican Indian tribe - Tarahumaras. They are also known as Raramuris.
The Tarahumaras are probably the best long distance runners or "ultra" runners in the world. Known for their ability to run hundreds of kilometres without break, they are also experts in camouflaging themselves in a way that they remain invisible to roving eyes of outsiders unless they choose to reveal themselves.
The author, Christopher McDougall, a former war correspondent for the Associated Press, is a contributing editor for Men's Health. In this book he brings out details on the running techniques of the Tarahumaras, their living style, their dietary habits etc.
The author takes you back to 1993, when one 57 year old Tarahumara, wearing a toga and a sandal made out of tyres, wins a prestigious 100 km running contest.
In the words of the author, this book is an answer to a question "why does my foot hurt?"
It is a good and easy read, full of wit and exuberance.
